Anyone who needs a reference can ask me-Don became a great friend by the time our full-day fishing trip had to end. He was patient with the beginners and open-minded and helpful to the more experienced anglers in our family! An experience we will never forget! Don's personality perfectly matched ours and made us laugh, cry and cheer all day! We would love to spend more time with him fishing or not! (But who am I kidding?
Fishing is what he loves too!) Thank you for making this fishing trip so special for us!

Matti and Hogni were fantastic!

We had an amazing day with them. They were really helpful and super passionate about fishing. We also stayed in their beautiful lodge which made the trip perfect.

I'd highly recommend a fishing trip with them.

I spent an absolutely wonderful afternoon and the following morning on the Laxa river with Ísak in September. Ísak got me into a very good number of beautiful brown trout, half of which were 20 inches and larger with an amazing girth. The aerial displays and hard fights these fish gave were incredible. In addition to the fabulous fish, my guide Ísak was awesome. He new the river and where the fish were and kept me from floating away in the deeper water 😉 Ísak is very pleasant and by the end of my fishing with him I felt like he had been a friend for years. In addition, without going into details, I had some complications with a fishing permit that I had purchased from another company. Ísak and Matti went to work to resolve the problem for me, for which I was very grateful. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. When I return to Iceland I will certainly book more guided trips with them - best guiding experience I had in Iceland.

Matti and his professionally trained guide staff have been supporting my passion for landing atlantic salmon, large brown trout and arctic char since 2021. They always go the extra mile from the time you land in Iceland to the time you are dropped back off at the airport to return home. Your entire trip is well planned and organized especially your time on the river.

Matti always puts me on fish. He not only makes it a point to understand my goals but year after year has helped me achieve them. I have landed numerous fish and SO FAR...6 have been IGFA world records (3 atlantic salmon, 2 arctic char and 1 brown trout) with 4 additional IGFA records pending as of this writing.

The lodge is comfortable and in a beautiful setting. The food is exceptional - nothing like warm freshly baked beet bread, trout and mango ceviche appetizer and perfectly prepared lamb.

Matti and his staff are gentlemen, lots of fun and exceptional guides. My trips consistently exceed any expectations.

We spent 5 days fishing with Matti in April and had a most wonderful time. Iceland is an amazing place and the fishing was superb. Mattie worked hard to make sure we were well taken care of. I heartily recommend Iceland Fishing Guides.

I went middle of May for browns and was not disappointed. I don't count fish or size, I seek authentically wild fisheries, good nature'd and knowledgeable guides along with diversity of waters that allow the opportunity to challenge my ability to hook and land a fish - which Iceland Fishing Guide provided me. I went with my non-fishing adult daughter who I was pleasantly surprised said she loved her 5 days there. She went out with me two sessions and did her own exploration of the area (wale watching and thermal pools) - and when she did fish, the guides were extremely patient and helpful (she even caught two browns). Be prepared for long days 12 hours of daily fishing - you certainly get your monies worth with time on the water.

My ultimate testimonial: Will I do it again? Yes.

My husband is an avid fisherman and he did a lot of research about fishing guides in this area. This was the most highly reviewed outfit and we agree with all the reviews. Matthi was a great guide. He was able to set my husband up and provide him with a challenge while at the same time teaching me - a complete beginner - how to fish. Both of us ended the day happy with caught fish and seeing a beautiful area of Iceland. Matthi was also the most friendly person we met in Iceland and we had a great time with him. Highly recommend!

Fishing with Matti is like fishing with a long-time friend. Matti went above and beyond to make our North Iceland fishing experience amazing taking us to the far reaches of Iceland's northeast coast and then to the incredible Laxa River near Myvatn. Even with below average fly anglers, Matti guided us to great catches of large brown trout and Atlantic char and I caught 11 myself making my day with Matti the best fly fishing experience of my life. As a Florida fishing, I highly recommend Matti at Iceland Fishing Guides and Day Tours. You'll have the time of your life.
