Not for the faint of heart

This was my second favorite hike in all of Iceland (Glymur Waterfall was my first). If you like doing stuff that scares you, this is the hike for you. This is not a hike to bring kids on!!

There are about 75-100ft of ladders going up the side of the cliff after all the initial stairs. Very good quality ladders and sturdy but pretty intense if there is big wind gusts. I found it more nerve wracking when coming back down. If you are afraid of heights, this hike isn’t for you.

Once you get past the ladders it is a nice hike along the edge of the mountain and I do mean edge. Once you get up the first hill you walk along the ridge with drop offs on both sides and climb to the main look out. Great 360 views.

Absolutely incredible hike. I was in ok hiking shape when I did this. Would consider it moderate to hard.

1. Wear good hiking shoes and perhaps gloves to grab the chains, rope and ladders.
2. Bring water. It’s quite the stairs and incline workout
3. Don’t attempt in rain or heavy wind.
4. It took me exactly 1.5 hrs up and down

Most terrifying hike of my life. It felt like I was in an Everest movie. Ladders and chains and ropes to hold on to on parts that are most scary.

Heimaklettur may look a bit inacessible at first sight, but there are ladders and chains to help you up the path to the top. The views across the island are amazing in all directions. You'll see the vast lava fields coughed up by the Eldfell volcano in 1973, and a beautiful circle of cliffs around the harbour if you walk a little further down on the other side. I made a detailed description of this walk, including lots of pictures of what the track is like, and what you can expect along the way. Interesting little detail: In the darker days of the year the locals like to light candles on Heimaklettur. Around Christmas and New Year they get totally out of control, with a multitude of candles all over the upper slopes.

Sem sombra de dúvida é o melhor pico da ilha. Dos quatro que consegui alcançar esse foi o que me proporcionou a melhor vista. Vale muito a pena a caminhada até lá.

Un dei trekking più spettacolari fatti in Islanda. Sconsigliato a chi soffre di vertigini o in caso pioggia/vento perchè non ci sono protezioni. Noi siamo partiti dal campo da Golf per arrivare al porto (giro inverso rispetto a quello segnalato sulle guide) in quanto meno ripida la discesa del porto. In vetta vista spettacolare. Inoltre si possono vedere pulcinella di mare. Bellissimo.
