A stunning waterfall with very nice views. But a small tip, if u don't wanna cross the river with the rope and log you can choose a different path.... To the right (following the green sign) is with river crossing and to the left is a hike up to the top and you can return the same way back to the parking.

Brilliant hike, moderately hard - 5 miles on paths with 1303ft elevation gain. The path is good and the views are stunning. There’s a river crossing on a log and a bit of wire as a handrail but it’s fairly easy.

Free parking and the trail is well marked. If you want to do the circular loop then you’ll need to wade across the river at the ford upstream of the waterfall.

Our favorite hike we did in Iceland. We completed the river crossing with the log and completed the East route with amazing views of the canyon and waterfall. We crossed the river at the top with water to our shins in mid-September. Water shoes would be best as it can be slippery, flip flops would also work. The hike down had great views of the area out toward the West.

Keep in mind if you just do the main (west) route you will miss some of the best views. It took me and my father (71) about four hours to complete with plenty of breaks and sightseeing.

Nice trail. Made it only to the river crossing with the log. The log was displaced, enabling only about 50% crossing, the rest was to be made through the water. There's a metal cable to aid with balance but even so we didn't want to cross the very strong current. But it was a nice trail to that point nonetheless.

Absolutely loved this hike. It is not overly easy with a lot of steep climbs and loose rocks. Make sure to wear good shoes and dress in layers. Stunning views and beautiful waterfall. There is a river crossing at the top if you want to do the whole loop. It was fun but freezing and up past my ankles in mid August. Be safe.
