Great hostel! We personally loved the place, out of standards (in a good way).
The atmosphere was super nice, the place has a common living room that offers many different board games to kill time, music, instruments, books, and a table football.
We did stay in a quadruple room (very good price considering we booked the same morning) and it was perfect!
The kitchen is spacious and well equipped - fridge, cooker, microwave, oven.
Obviously is an hostel, so you have to clean up your messes.
Free coffee and/or tea in the morning for the guests.
Helpful staff, even tho not present all the time, always reachable if any problems (:

“Dal tramonto all'alba”

Come nel film diretto da Robert Rodriguez, ahimè senza Salma Hayek! (...), la mia giornata in solitaria, a zonzo per le ghiacciate strade islandesi stava per terminare, un tramonto sbiadito per la poca luce, colpa una copiosa bruma che si stagliava a specchio sulle acque dell'agitato fiordo, mi confermava che le ore di luce erano concluse.

Nutrivo da tempo grandi aspettative sul The Freezer, sin da quando lo avevo prenotato su Booking, avevo visionato i tanti video sui social network e sul sito istituzionale, me lo ero già immaginato fenomenale, e quindi pensavo ad una serata divertente e in musica, non proprio “sesso, droga e rock and roll”, ma comunque ero bello carico, le aspettative erano tutte positive, ma da lì a poco avrei conosciuto un'altra realtà! Quando sono entrato non c'era nessuno, ho cercato invano tra le stanze il personale addetto al ricevimento, in questo capannone un po' hippy e un po' grunge, che in pratica altro non è che una sala dove si fa musica dal vivo, ma niente, vuoto, non c'era anima viva. Gira e rigira, seduta su uno dei tanti divani vecchi e polverosi della hall, ho visto una ragazza, una francese proveniente da Bastia in Corsica, mi mostra un foglio scritto a penna dai proprietari. Il messaggio informava gli ospiti che avremmo potuto soggiornare liberamente e che purtroppo per vani motivi personali, ad accoglierci non ci sarebbe stato nessuno, eravamo praticamente in autogestione!
Poco più tardi, in silenzio assoluto, quasi zen, prendevamo possesso a nostro piacere delle stanze. Qualche ora più tardi il The Freezer inizia a popolarsi, arrivano altre persone, una ragazza serba, una coppia di asiatici, uno ragazzo spagnolo e poi altri ancora a seguire, tutti venivano informati dell'antefatto. Dopo una cena fatta in uno dei pochissimi ristoranti aperti sulla costa ritorno al The Freezer per trascorrere la notte.

L'alba boreale, dipinta sulle tante pareti delle camere, è stata un risveglio fantastico, illustrazioni di personaggi mitologici o di pura fantasia, rivivono storie surreali in ambientazioni e paesaggi, tra cascate vigorose, monti dalle fattezze insolite e singolari, che ripercorrono i siti più iconici dell'isola!. Qui la magia del The Freezer ha dato il meglio di se!

We camped here for a night in December 2024 and the hostel is open in winter.

There is a kitchen with utensils, plates, pots and pans, two microwaves, stove and sitting area.

Also a very nice and warm lounge area with sofas, games and instruments, and drinks you can purchase at an added cost.

Washing machine available at added cost as well.

There are two toilets with showers that were clean. No hair dryer.

Enjoyed our stay there as everything was very convenient and well-maintained.

It was more pricey than normal campsites (39 euros for two) but it was worth it. Could be too expensive for a single person though as it is also the same price for one.

Friendly staff, they left at about 8pm so if you come after that they might not be around but I’m sure you can pay the next day.

Definitely an interesting place. At least during my visit the only time I've seen any staff here is in the mornings, but they leave once they're done with cleaning and whatnot. Basically it's self check in, at least it has been every night I've stayed. Neat location, it is like 20 minute drive from the national park on the peninsula. The room I am staying in is decent, I assume all the others are as well.

Incredible location, lovely staff, gorgeous interior, warm and clean showers, the unique (at least for us french people) trust system on drinks,...what more would you want ?
Absolute must see and stop for anyone exploring the west coast of Iceland !

A great and comfy place to enjoy a warm moment with a beer during your trip. The staff is very friendly and helpful, ready to help and explain everything with patience. After going through different campsites in the north in a campervan, this one is our favourite.

Amazing place to stay in "the middle of nowhere". I swear, I never expected to find a place like this in Iceland. So nice, good facilities, huge common area (I guess it's designed to concerts). I didn't see any staff member, but you can self check-in.
