Don’t bring your husband here if you’re short on time. This place is amazing- every handle is handmade by Palli in his shop and handles are made of local wildlife, like reindeer horn, horse hooves and whale bones. Palli is incredibly helpful, even to us spastic Americans who were interested in buying the prettiest knife. Highly recommend a stop to here and Alafoss next store, a very fun pit stop

Handcrafted handles on very nice and unique looking blades.

Been looking for this since I got to Scandinavia! Not cheap, it’s an experience and meeting the handle and sheath maker (not a teenage clerk in a tourist shop) is pretty special.

The blades used to be made in a store but are now imported from Germany/Denmark, but the handles are OUT.OF.THIS.WORLD.

Handles made from reindeer horn, whale tooth, horse good, reclaimed ivory, and Iceland wood. Oh and stone. Yep, stone. It’s amazing. And there’s ivory carvings and other very interesting things from 3 craftspersons.

Forget the tour bus, go visit here.

Theres a waterfall at the shop entrance as well.

Iconic.

Pálli showed my wife and I around his shop. I am very glad I got one of his knives while I could. I will buy one if his whittling knives soon and have it shipped to the US.

*updated: I bought a knife and sent it through Icelandic post and it was very easy.

I am very happy with my purchase and hope others have the opportunity to visit and get a knife. If you are a collector, the last Icelandic knife maker ( knife artist ) is worth every cent.

Takk takk Pálli.

The store is so interesting and the shopkeeper/knife maker was so friendly and helpful. Additionally she was able to give us a ton of recommendations for our stay in Iceland.

I took my two sons to Palli's knifemaking class in Mosfellsbær. We had a great time making a one-of-a-kind souvenir. I wanted my kids to take home something that was more authentic than what you could get at the gift shop. He fed us a great lunch of traditional Icelandic foods. It was a nice way to wrap up our trip to this beautiful country.

Pálli was Kind and willing to answer any questions. Amazing knives and some other artisanal products, carvings made by his brother etc. I bought a carving knife with a Birch handle and horse hoof detail. Haven't used it yet but can't wait to try it out.

I bought knives here 5 years ago of excellent quality and craftsmanship for about 200 euro a piece. Now as Pali has become closer to retirement thé prices are not only stratospheric but the blades are mostly imported massed produced some from Japan and some from Germany with a piece of horse hood or reindeer horn slapped on for a handle . As a knife collector I can see thé finish has dropped in line with the tourist boom. The same knives now are 900 euro and up ! Buy online from thé US for one third the cost and you are getting the exact same blade.
Other blades are very low quality stainless that are not stamped and upon close inspection I can see are very mild steel. Like the ice caves I would catégorisé this as another Icelandic Tourist trap !
