We arrived to Iceland very early in the morning so we decided to visit a couple of lighthouses out by the airport before heading into Reykjavik. Road 45 will loop you around to see 4 lighthouses and a church before bringing you back by the airport to head into Reykjavik. This is the final of the 4. The road to the lighthouse is blocked at the end of the drive and we weren't certain about accessing it beyond that point so this is where we stopped. This whole area is teeming with nesting Eider ducks. Very interesting to see them.

There is first a huge art gallery, which was an abstract series of small paintings about the ocean, unappealing to my taste. Then there's a large sword of meeting room, and on the second floor a rather interesting and eclectic collection of ballpoint pens, matchboxes, and lighters. The third floor is where the gems are colon over 150 model boats hand carved in wood, all by the same sea captain after his retirement. The Attic is impressive with its wooden joists as well as the beautiful old hand crank to bring water from the well, but the model boats are absolutely astounding and wonderfully displayed.

Herrlich orangener Leuchtturm. Leider ist der Fußweg direkt dorthin gesperrt, aber man hat vom Parkplatz aus bereits einen schönen Blick.

Otro faro más, de color naranja, que te vas encontrando durante tu ruta por Islandia, a este no pudimos llegar porque el paso está cerrado para vehículos. A pie si se podrá.

A nice small lighthouse that stands in the landscape off the beaten track. It's worth taking a short detour to take a photo of the striking orange lighthouse and to have a view of the sea. With a bit of luck, you can also see the planes landing or taking off from Reykjavik Airport.

While waiting for a friend to arrive at the airport I drove to this fun, unique lighthouse. Very picturesque and easy to access for a light walk and beach view. Good plane watching if planes are landing to the east.
